“How do I sell my Motorcycle when the engine doesn’t work?”

“It’s a decent motorcycle. Body is in great shape.
Most of the gadgets work fine.
For an old motorcycle, it’s basically great!

All it needs are some new plugs and that’s it… I think.
A story we have heard before…

This motorcycle has sat in my garage for about 2 years now.

I don’t have the time or energy to want to fix this motorcycle.
Hey, I will just sell it “as-is” and let someone else deal with the fixing up hassle.

It’s a great motorcycle, if someone would just take the small steps to fix it.

Let’s see… the fair market value of the motorcycle based on what I can tell is about $1,200. Now, that would be the fair price if it was running.

Plugs and some elbow grease to fix it, will run under $20 bucks.

Since I want to be fair, I will price my motorcycle at $1,150, which is market price less the cost to repair the motorcycle.

Sounds like a win-win scenario.

I get to sell my motorcycle without having to fix it. The buyer of my motorcycle gets a “good” deal, and gets a decent motorcycle after he fixes it.”

Sound familiar?

In theory it makes sense.

In reality it usually doesn’t work.

The problem is that your potential buyers DON”T know that the only problem is the plugs.

What if it’s NOT the plugs?

What if in addition to the plugs there are other issues?

Any potential buyer either has to trust you completely, or they have to be a motorcycle mechanic to test and verify the condition of the motorcycle you are selling.

This “unknown” factor is going to kill your chances of selling your motorcycle.

Bottom line:
It is 10 times harder to sell a motorcycle that cannot be started, or driven.

Trying to sell a motorcycle that won’t start?
